Metalwork & Welding jobs in the Netherlands
Workshop-based roles for welders, fitters and metal finishing: MIG/MAG, TIG, CNC support, assembly, grinding and polishing. Non-EU candidates are welcome to apply (legal work permission is employer- and role-specific).
Quick fit check
A short sanity check before you apply.
- You can read basic technical drawings and follow workshop instructions.
- You are comfortable with measuring, tack-up, alignment and quality checks.
- You can work safely with rotating machinery, hot work or sharp edges (PPE mindset).
- You can communicate essential safety points in English (site language may vary).
- You can document your experience on a CV (materials, positions, thickness, methods).
- You are ready for shift work or overtime when the project requires it.
This role is not for you if…
These are common mismatch reasons.
- You do not have workshop or fabrication experience and cannot pass a skills check/test.
- You avoid safety rules (PPE, permits, lock-out/tag-out where applicable).
- You cannot work to tolerances or reject/repair standards.
- You are not able to travel to different Dutch cities/provinces when assignments change.
Pay snapshot (gross / brutto)
The ranges below are gross (brutto) per hour and indicative. Final pay depends on the employer/CAO, province, experience level, shift pattern, overtime, and specific materials/positions required.
| Role | Typical gross range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| CNC Machine Operator / Assistant (setup support, tooling, basic offsets) |
€16.50–€22.50 / hour | Higher end when shifts/complex parts apply; project-specific. |
| Mechanical Fitter / Assembler (mechanical assembly, alignment, QA) |
€17.00–€24.50 / hour | Depends on drawings, tolerances, and responsibility level. |
| Metal Grinder / Polisher (finishing, deburring, surface quality) |
€15.50–€20.50 / hour | Stainless finishing and quality specs can lift the rate. |
| MIG/MAG Welder (steel structures, fillet/butt, multi-pass) |
€18.50–€28.00 / hour | Rate moves with weld position, thickness, and testing requirements. |
| TIG Welder (stainless, thin-wall, higher finish) |
€20.00–€30.00 / hour | Precision work and stainless complexity typically price higher. |
What affects your hourly rate
- Province & project: regional demand and site requirements vary.
- Experience & responsibility: independent setup/QA/lead tasks push rates upward.
- Shift work & overtime: allowances may apply depending on the contract/CAO.
- Verification: weld tests or practical checks can be part of selection.
Work setup & conditions (typical)
Schedule & overtime
- Most workshops run day shifts; some projects add 2-shift or weekend work.
- Overtime depends on production peaks and client deadlines.
- Start times, breaks and weekly hours are confirmed per project before onboarding.
Safety, tools, PPE
- Expect safety briefings and basic quality documentation.
- PPE is mandatory (eye/hand/hearing protection; welding PPE per task).
- Tools can be site-provided or partially personal depending on the employer.
What you will do (day-to-day)
- Prepare & check: read drawings, confirm materials, measure and mark up workpieces.
- Fit-up: tack, align, clamp, and set joints to tolerance.
- Weld / assemble / finish: execute MIG/MAG or TIG, or assemble mechanical parts; grind and finish to spec.
- Quality: visual inspection, dimensions, rework if required; keep the station clean and safe.
- Team workflow: coordinate with supervisors, QA, and other trades in the workshop.
Requirements & skills
Required
- Relevant experience in welding/metalwork, fitting/assembly, CNC support, or finishing.
- Ability to work from drawings and use measuring tools (calipers, tape, angle tools).
- Basic English for safety, instructions and reporting.
- Reliability and a safety-first attitude (PPE compliance is non-negotiable).
Nice to have
- Documented weld tests/certificates (if you have them, include them on the CV).
- Experience with stainless steel, thin-wall TIG, or high-finish requirements.
- Forklift/overhead crane familiarity (only where applicable).
- Ability to troubleshoot minor fit-up or production issues independently.
Certificates & standards
Requirements are project-dependent. Some clients require documented certificates; others accept a practical test. If you do not hold certificates, describe your work clearly (process, positions, thickness, materials).

FAQ
Are the pay ranges gross (brutto) or net?
All pay ranges on this page are shown as gross (brutto) per hour unless a specific offer states otherwise.
Do I need Dutch language for these roles?
Not always. Many workshops work in English. You must be able to communicate essential safety and instructions; exact needs depend on the project.
Can non-EU candidates apply?
Yes. Legal work permission depends on the employer and role (often employer-specific). We confirm the pathway during screening.
Will there be a weld test?
Sometimes. For welding roles, a practical test or skills verification can be part of the client confirmation step.
Is accommodation provided?
It depends on the specific project and employer. If accommodation/transport is arranged, terms and any deductions are confirmed before start.
