HVAC Technician (Kälteanlagenbauer)
Install, commission, and maintain HVAC / refrigeration systems on Germany-based projects. This page explains typical expectations for English-speaking candidates and how onboarding works through a Polish employer supporting German sites.
Responsibilities (site + service)
Quality & documentation
- Follow drawings, method statements, and commissioning checklists (when provided).
- Record measurements and handover notes (pressure tests, leak checks, functional tests).
- Maintain a clean, safe working area; protect finished surfaces and equipment.
Requirements (detailed)
Hard requirements
- CV in English (PDF preferred) — required for review.
- Hands-on experience with HVAC / refrigeration installation or maintenance.
- Ability to read basic drawings, layouts, and equipment datasheets.
- Safety discipline: PPE usage, lockout awareness, and respect for site rules.
Strong advantages (raise your match score)
- Vocational qualification (HVAC / refrigeration / electromechanics or similar).
- Refrigerant handling competence (F-gas or equivalent certification if you work with refrigerants).

Short candidate portrait
Signals that you will perform well
- You can describe 2–3 real projects with dates, scope, and equipment types.
- You work cleanly: labeling, tidy routing, and careful handover behavior.
- You communicate early about problems (missing parts, access, clashes, rework risk).
- You respect safety and never “improvise” around pressure, electricity, or refrigerants.
Pay floor, gross rates, timesheets
Germany statutory minimum wage as of 01.01.2026 is €13.90 gross/hour. For skilled HVAC profiles, project pay is commonly above the legal floor, depending on verified competence and the scope of responsibility.
How hours are confirmed
- Daily/weekly timesheets or digital check-in (site-dependent).
- Supervisor confirmation for overtime and commissioning extensions.
- Clear reporting of travel time rules (if applicable on a given project).
Important: gross pay is before taxes and deductions. Final take-home depends on your tax status, insurance structure, and individual payroll parameters.

Practical expectations on German sites
- Strict safety culture: PPE, marked routes, access control, and permit rules.
- Coordination with other trades (electricians, pipefitters, drywall/ceiling teams).
- Reliability matters: consistent attendance and predictable start times.
- Quality control: rework on HVAC is expensive; accuracy is expected.
Prepare these before applying
- CV in English (PDF) + phone/email + current city/country
- Passport scan (main page) + validity check
- Certificates and licenses (HVAC/refrigeration/electrical basics, if available)
- Project list: locations, dates, tasks, systems, tools (short and factual)
- Reference contacts (optional but valuable)
A high-quality CV includes
- Exact systems you worked on (e.g., VRF, chillers, heat pumps, AHUs, ducting, piping).
- Core tasks (installation, brazing, pressure testing, vacuum, charging, diagnostics).
- Safety competence and site roles (lead/assistant, commissioning support, service calls).
Strong documentation reduces verification time and improves response rates.
